The public transportation to go there is a bit complicated you need to take bus/shared car, continued by ferry, then another public car to go to hotel location, and sorry to say, but sometimes they overcharged the foreign tourist. Re Transport from Medan to Lake Toba 5 years ago I travel around Medan City, Lake Toba , and Samosir Island by motorcycle that i rent from Medan City. After done my travel i can say mostly say traveller come with family they will hire a designated driver to commute. The spot area is quite far from Medan airport to Berastagi and to Lake Toba and lastly Samosir Island. I would suggest you to hire a driver and planned your trip with the driver. Re Transport from Medan to Lake Toba 5 years ago Share taxi from Medan airport to Parapat is only 90,000 IR per person, plus 10,000 for the faster toll road. It's a 7 seater. You may have to wait for other passengers, or you can pay for the empty seats. 7 is a bit of a squeeze. Leaving the airport you'll see signs to the left for Taxis- ignore this. Turn right, following sign for buses. Before the buses you'll see a blue counter selling bus tickets. A few meters to the left of the counter you'll see silver rails- This is where you wait. Hopefully you'll soon see some guys wearing 'Nice Taxi' shirts. Ask them. If you don't want to pay for empty seats, then pretend that you don't mind waiting. If no other Parapat customers arrive they'll offer you a ride to a city along the route and put you in another Taxi there. This actually works out even cheaper, although you may have to wait for other passengers. It's around 4 hours using the toll road. Last ferry leaves at 7pm for Tuk Tuk. This is the perfect itinerary for about 5 days, lots to see and stay in Taman Simalem Resort if you can, totally worth it. I hired a driver to get me along the entire trip and everything was handled carefully. I promised Johnny that I will leave a testimonial, so here it is.
